SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAMS/ACTIVITIES

  “STUDY BUDDIES”:  “ Study Buddies” is an after school tutoring program at Morehead Primary and Morehead Elementary Schools.  Tutor volunteers, students from West Carteret High School, assist the limited English proficient students with their homework every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:15 – 4:00.  This is a year long program.

“FAMILY PARTNERSHIP FOR LEARNING”:  This evening program provides ESL adult classes and literacy based education for parents and their primary age children.  For the first hour and a half the adults are instructed in English language skills by a Community College instructor while their children participate in supervised educational activities with a certified teacher. For the last 30 minutes of the program they join their parents to work on literacy skills together.  This is a three month program offered yearly.

“QUARTERLY NEWSLETTERS”:  A newsletter is provided four times a year.  It contains news, special events and important dates from each of our 4 ESL schools.

“HISPANIC PARENT ASSOCIATION”:  This is a parent centered group, represented by all four of the ESL schools.  The association meets three times a year.  The program agendas include such topics as community resources, educational programs and accountability standards.  Parents are encouraged to raise concerns or needs in an open forum.  The program is conducted in their native language.
